Corten cladding
The Corten Steel Clad Door is a bespoke steel doorset clad in Corten (weathering steel), a steel alloy that forms a stable, protective rust-coloured patina as it weathers. It begins life looking like ordinary steel and develops a deep, dark-brown patina over the following weeks, so it is often chosen as an architectural feature on contemporary buildings and to match surrounding Corten cladding. Each doorset is designed and manufactured to order - please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Our corten-clad doorsets are built on our G15 steel door and SG20 glazed screen ranges, so the same robust steel construction sits behind the cladding, and matching glazed side screens can be supplied alongside the door.
As the doorset is bespoke and made to order, its applications are many and include:
The Corten cladding is mounted on the door leaf and frame using a system we developed specifically for these doorsets. Individual cladding panels can be replaced if they are damaged, and the mounting maintains a ventilating air gap between the steel door panel and the Corten cladding.
Because a clad leaf is considerably heavier than a standard door, the hinge jamb is reinforced to carry the weight of the leaf, its cladding and the forces from any powered operator.
Where a leaf is too large and heavy for a conventional door closer, an automatic operator is fitted. On Synergy House in London we installed a Dorma ED 250LE, suitable for leaf weights up to 250kg, with a low-energy mode for easy everyday use and full automatic mode on demand. Access control can be integrated as required.
As standard, every doorset and its electrical systems are fully assembled and tested in our Lincoln factory before delivery to site, so that only minimal setup is required on installation.
